Skybeds
Lodge style Starry starry nights
And into the starry night
After dark, the night comes alive to your senses. From your platform you can hear the sound of nocturnal animals as they move around, and listen to the mysterious calls you won’t hear during the day. Above you, the heavens stretch out in a panoramic exhibition of celestial majesty, and you can truly appreciate the glittering stars and untainted skies. Lantern lit bush dinners are cooked over an open fire, and served on the dining deck.
Located in the Khwai Private Reserve, the five-metre high Skybed platforms overlook a waterhole and boast 360 degree views over a pristine wilderness. Three sturdy, elevated platforms are furnished and consist of two levels. The first is the bathroom level, with an enclosed shower, flush loo and wash basin. The top is the sleeping area – under the stars - and has an enormous bed and mosquito netting.
Although Skybeds in Khwai Private Reserve definitely is one of those incredible romantic experiences, it doesn't mean that the experience is for couples only. Small groups are most welcome to book the camp on an exclusive basis (that’s what we call a party!), and also families with children 15 years and older are invited.
Activities at Khwai Skybeds
Activities include walks and evening game drives on request. But of course, the main attraction at Skybeds is the waterhole just in front of your platform. So make sure to keep one eye on the ground... In one night we’ve seen hyena, lion, wild dogs, and elephant – and that’s just the beginning. So, whilst we can’t guarantee you will get a lot of sleep, we can guarantee one of the wildest and most wonderful safari experiences you’ll ever have.
Skybeds honeymoon offer
Skybeds in Khwai offers a fabulous special for newlyweds. Partners receive a 50% discount when staying for a minimum of two nights. Valid between 3 April 2024 and 9 January 2025.
Tripadvisor comments Khwai Skybeds
Amazing experience -- a very different way to appreciate safari. We had a great experience at the hide en route, then a great dinner overlooking the waterhole. By the time we went to sleep there were dozens of elephants drinking under the stars, and we could hear them, and then a pair of lions, right outside our structure all night. The towers are well designed and feel fairly high-end despite the simplicity, and give a great, exposed view of the surrounding area. Very strongly recommend!

This is one of the most memorable nights of our 3 week trip in Southern Africa! It is NOT to be missed. Our guide, Russel, was so sweet, very poetic, incredibly knowledgable and told amazing stories. We felt honored to be his guests. We were picked up in the afternoon by Russel after our morning game drive, drove through the muapani forest and had our afternoon tea at the elephant hyde, an absolutely mesmerizing experience. Arriving at the Skybeds is very magical, with the closest civilization being 70 miles away. The serenity and remoteness was so cool. Our chefs, Tony from New Zealand, and Sarah from Khwai were fantastic.
