Heed the call of the wild at Tawana
Tucked within Botswana’s wildlife-rich Moremi Game Reserve, Tawana promises an intimate connection to one of Africa’s last true wildernesses. Opened in May 2024, Tawana blends seamlessly into its surroundings, cradled by the lush greenery along the Gomoti River, which attracts some of the most diverse wildlife in Botswana. The camp celebrates both the region’s cultural heritage and its vibrant natural ecosystem, offering a sanctuary for discerning safari-goers.
This exclusive camp invites you to experience Moremi Game Reserve in comfort and style. With only eight expansive suites (including three family units), each thoughtfully positioned to offer privacy and panoramic views of the surrounding floodplains, Tawana creates a sense of seclusion and connection to the wilderness. Here, the call of the wild never feels far away, as wildlife roams freely through the unfenced camp, offering guests up-close encounters from dawn to dusk.
Tawana’s eight very spacious suites epitomise the marriage of luxury and nature. At approximately 100 square meters (130 square meters for family suites), each suite features a private lounge area, a terrace with a plunge pool, and an outdoor sala, perfect for soaking in the views between safari adventures. Inspired by the earthy tones and textures of the Okavango Delta and Moremi, the décor incorporates organic materials and elements from the local Batawana tribe, creating an environment that is both stylish and reflective of its surroundings.
Inside, the suites offer all the comforts you could wish for in the wild: air-conditioning over the beds to combat the midday heat, indoor and outdoor showers, a deep-soaking bathtub, and eco-friendly amenities. Sliding glass doors open up to your private deck, where swing chairs and plush seating provide the ideal space to relax while watching wildlife wander past. The layout of the camp ensures each suite feels like its own private oasis, shaded by majestic ebony and sausage trees.
For those seeking a more energetic retreat, in-room weights and yoga mats are provided, while the well-equipped gym and the 16-meter lap pool offer ample opportunities to stay active during your stay. In addition, the camp’s spa services can be enjoyed in the privacy of your suite, ensuring relaxation is always at your fingertips.
Communal spaces are equally impressive. The heart of Tawana is a stunning open-sided lounge and dining area, where guests can enjoy meals and drinks against the backdrop of the Gomoti River and its bustling wildlife. The décor here mirrors the suites’ earthy tones, accented by pops of teal and jade reminiscent of Botswana’s birdlife. With a walk-in wine cellar, a wood-fired pizza oven, and intimate dining settings, Tawana provides a refined culinary experience to complement your safari.
Activities at Tawana
Tawana offers one of the most immersive safari experiences in Botswana. Set in the southeastern corner of the Moremi Game Reserve, the camp is surrounded by an ecosystem known for its high concentration of game. Guests can look forward to sightings of predators like lions, leopards, and the elusive African wild dogs, as well as large herds of herbivores, including red lechwe, elephants, and buffalo, all drawn to the perennial waters of the Gomoti River.
Safari activities at Tawana are highly personalized and led by expert guides, many of whom hail from the surrounding area. Game drives take place twice daily, offering the chance to explore Moremi’s diverse landscapes—from shimmering lagoons and mopane woodlands to grassy floodplains teeming with life. Bird lovers will be delighted by the Okavango’s impressive avian population, with over 400 species recorded in the region, including the colorful lilac-breasted roller and the rare Pel’s fishing owl.
For those looking to add a unique perspective to their safari, Tawana also offers helicopter flights over the Delta (additional cost), providing breathtaking views of the intricate water channels and the wildlife that inhabits them. Whether you’re tracking predators on a game drive or gazing out from the comfort of your plunge pool, Tawana ensures every moment is steeped in the magic of Botswana’s wilderness.
Tripadvisor comments Tawana
Staying at Tawana was such a lovely experience. Not only is it absolutely beautiful, but it is totally run on solar power. The view from our room was so beautiful. Service was impeccable. Everyone is very personable, and they all know your name. Food was plentiful and so very delicious.

This place is absolutely beautiful! Opened in April 2024. We are here for 3 nights inside of a family hut(July 2024) with our 19 year old son. The decor is lovely, the rooms are beautiful. The pool outside of the room is lovely, and the big pool is gorgeous. The attention to detail is top notch. Monkeys and baboons right outside of the door/windows and all on the roof. You can see any and all kinds of animals from your room.
